... Cypress Lake

The fishing at Cape Canaveral was fun but the fan boat ride at Cypress Lake was enthralling. We'd decided early on in the trip to experience natural Florida vs. commerical Florida. (Partly because we both tend to enjoy it more and partly because, dang, theme parks are pricey!) So instead of some Alligator Farm we chose to glide through the bog at speeds as high as 60mph on a cool fan boat to see the alligators in the wild.

Wow, what a great decision. We ended up seeing over a dozen alligators, most as close as two arm lengths away. One arm length would have been too close because they are spry things and move quickly.

I felt pretty safe in the boat though. Actually, it reminded me a lot of going on Safari a few summers ago. Just sitting back and seeing pristine land and beautiful birds flying in the clear blue sky. It couldn't have been more perfect. I think I had a smile posted on my face the entire time. Quite an experience.

Looks like you are having a wonderful time. I'm very jealous. It's been snowing for three days here, I'd give just about anything to stand on a beach barefoot!

Did it feel like you were in "Flipper Flipper faster than lightning..." (remember the dad was a sheriff in the everglades and they had a fan boat like that!)? That's way cool. BTW did you ever notice that Flipper was kinda like the Lassie of the Seventies?

Great idea, Meesh. I love it that you guys chose to see natural Florida. Much prettier than Disney ;)

I was going to ask which was more scary: Elephant or alligator?

Fun. My dad always wanted to take me on an airboat ride when he lived in Florida. I was always to afraid! We did see many gators up close right off his dock . I NEVER got into that water again after I saw those gators.

The only time I've ever attempted to water-ski, was on my grandpa's lake (he lives in central florida). I spotted a gator about 10 yards away! Ummm, I haven't attempted since. Scary! Are you home yet?

The Elephants were WAY more scary and exciting than the gators, Cith.

Hi Jess! Yep, I'm home now. You up for a knitting party?
