... Book Meme

I'm not exactly sure what a book meme is, but I do know I've been tagged to quote some of the book closest to me. Hmmm, lets see (looking around) that would be Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessel.

OK, here is what I was told to do:
1) Grab the book closest to you
2) Open to page 123, go down to the fourth sentence
3) Post the text of the following 3 sentences
4) Name the author and book title
5) Tag three people to do the same

"A tidal wave of nausea was starting to flood my stomach and there was nothing I could do to stop it. It was like the black seawater overtaking a crimson Titanic stateroom, as recounted in one of Dads favorite autobiographies of all times, the gripping eyewitness account "Black in My Mind, Yellow in My Legs" (1943) by Herbert JD Lascowitz, who finally, in his ninety-seventh year, came clean about his Machiavellian behavior aboard the legendary oceanliner, admitting he strangled an unidentified woman, stripped her body, and donned her clothes in order to pretend he was a woman with child, thereby securing a choice spot for himself on one of the two remaining lifeboats. I tried to roll over and stand, but the carpet swerved upward and then, as shocking as lightening striking inches from my shoes, I was sick: cartoonishly sick all over the table and the carpet and the paisley couch by the firelace and Jade's black leather Dior sandles, even on the coffee-table book, "Thank God for the Telephoto lens: Backyard Photos of the Stars" (Miller, 2002)."

Wordy. Obscure. Humerous. Just like the book. I haven't actually read page 123 in it's entirety yet, so I'm excited to see what it was that made Blue Van Meer barf. She has been a fun character to get to know so far.

So, Bethany tagged me, and I'm tagging Jennifer, Catherine and my blurker, Sarah. Can't wait to see what you come up with ladies!!

So, I was at work when I got tagged. The first book I picked up was an architecture book (that's what's lying around in architectural firms!) and it had no writing on page 123 (or 122, or 124 - just lots of pictures). So now I'm at home... here's what I had:

"Then one Pole spoke up. “What you are asking is impossible. Each stone of Warsaw is soaked in Polish blood - we cannot forgive!”
Before the group parted, however, they said the Lord’s Prayer together." - What’s so Amazing About Grace, Philip Yancey

Well, that was random. Mmm, who to tag next?

And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation grumble agains him by bringing a bad report about the land-the men who brought up a bad report of the land-died by plague before the Lord. of those men who went out to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive. When Moses told these words to all the people of Israel, the people mourned greatly.

Okay, the Bible was the closest thing to me... so there you go.
